Why Villa Fans Should be Optimistic About Wes Edens

Today it was announced that Wes Edens was one half of a partnership involved in significant investment at Aston Villa football club.

Edens has been involved in sport for some time, co-owning the basketball team the Milwaukee Bucks and owning e-sports outfit FlyQuest, who play League of Legends competitively in the North American League Championship Series.

Wes Edens is truly appreciated in Milwaukee – and there hasn’t been an investor that has turned around a franchise in the NBA like he has. Every promise that he has made to the fans, he’s come through with.

With a true passion for sport, as well as innovation in the industry – there’s reason to be optimistic regarding his involvement with the club.

Even better, is that Wes Edens has turned the Milwaukee Bucks into a prosperous business – recognising a booming NBA product and making decisions that are definitely ‘winning’ decisions.

Whilst the business side of things is interesting, Wes and the other owners have made questionable decisions regarding players, staff and more at the Bucks – meaning changes could be afoot relatively quickly for Aston Villa.

It’s been a relatively positive day for Aston Villa – and Wes Edens is a masterclass on taking a dormant brand and making it thrive, but is a little inexperienced on making sporting decisions – and has made questionable ones at the Bucks – such as letting players walk, and bringing certain players in through trades and free agency.

Hopefully all three current investors at the club will be reading from the same hymn-book and we’ll see a Villa revival, but it’s always best to tread with caution around things like this.

His partner in this, Nasseff Sawiris – is a huge fan of football and owns stakes in the Adidas Group – which does bode well that a partnership between these two men, and Dr. Tony Xia, could well and truly be a good one for the football club.

  1. Hopefully this is the beginning of the rise! It’s all yet to be seen but I’m getting a little more excited for the future of our club. UTV!
